Hi All,Its me again. :DIve just finished up the rest of the maintenance from the original post.Yesterday I flushed and replaced the brake fluid and flushed and replaced the coolant. Today I replaced the transmission and rear differential oils.Brake Fluid: the stock brake fluid still looked okay, although when bleeding all of the old fluid out of the master cylinder I noticed some contaminants (mainly moisture). I replaced the stock fluid with Valvoline Synthetic DOT 4+5; looks a bit lighter in color and my brake pedal is slightly more firm now. Nice.Coolant: the stock coolant was very clean! Happy happy! They mustve used decent water at the factory in Tokyo. I flushed the system with Zerex (Valvoline) and then used Zerex (Valvoline) cooolant with a 50/50 ratio of distilled water. This one was easy.Transmission Oil: this worries me a little since Ive never changed transmission oil before. Perhaps someone can let me know if theyve had similar experiences and if this is normal... I drained the transmission and the stock oil was a bit dirty, especially the lower oil (that came out first). The bolt/plug has quite a bit of grease (yes, heavy grease) on the tip and stuck in the grease were some small particulates. Im unsure whether or not these particulates were metal or not, but there were at least two that were very slim and about 1 mm long. A couple other particulates were semi-round spheres which seemed as if they could have been dirt... Any clues?I replaced that tranny oil with Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 Synthetic. Its blue! The stock oil was brown. Is all synthetic heavy oil blue?Differential Oil: major pain in the arse. The drain and filler bolts/plugs were extremely tight. I had to use a breaker bar (never my torque wrench :rolleyes: ). This oil seemed pretty clean once I finally got it out! I replaced it with the same oil I used for the transmission. This was the tough part... I ended up using a long section of fish-tank siphoning hose (cleaned of course). I laid one end inside the differential and brought the other end to behind the car where I attached it to a funnel. I poured the oil through the funnel and let gravity do most of the work. Near the end of the specified amount I just blew on the funnel end of the hose to push the oil into the differential.I ordered the car with the rear differential protector... this a long heavy metal semi-box that surrounds the differential to protect it against rocks, tree branches, lost truck tire treads, etc. Unfortunately for me, the bottom lip of the differential protector extends out further than the drain and fill holes of the differential. So when draining the differential I had to use a piece of glossy paper shaped into a sort of ramp/funnel for the oil to run across into the drain pan. And since the filler hole also did not clear the protector I had to sit some paper towels below the fill hole while I filled the differential with oil so that the excess oil that came back out would not get stuck on top of the inside-bottom of the protector.Anyone who has the protector installed and has changed the differential oil will know exactly what Im talking about. :DSo anyhow... results. Well, theyre not leaking yet, so I guess thats good. I have noticed in my quick (redline in first, second, and third gears) drive around the block that the shifter is slightly smoother now.I was quite apprehensive about changing the transmission oil. Ill be the first to admit that Im scared to death of transmissions. Theyre expensive to repair! (I know since I had two defective transmission in my old car... no, it really wasnt my driving.
